Description

A resort on the Prahova valley in Romania, on the slopes of the Bucegi mountains, and the oldest and best known ski area in the country. The terrain climbs from the town at 800 metres to over 2000, giving a substantial vertical, and a cable car runs from the middle of Sinaia to the upper mountain. The skiing is mostly intermediate. Peleș Castle in the town is the former royal summer residence and one of the most striking buildings in Romania, which makes this a rare ski trip with a genuine cultural draw at the base. Bucharest is around two hours away by road or train, and prices are low.
