The largest ski resort in Slovakia and the best skiing in central Europe outside the Alps, on the north side of Chopok in the Low Tatras national park. North facing terrain holds snow well, with open ground above the treeline, long forest runs below, and freeride terrain that draws people from across the region. It suits confident intermediates and experts alike. Take a guide if you plan to ski off piste, because the terrain is serious and the avalanche forecasting is less detailed than you may be used to.

The base areas are modern and the surrounding valley is forest and limestone caves. Hotels and apartments cost well below the Alps with much shorter queues midweek. The Demänovská ice cave and a thermal afternoon at Tatralandia are the obvious days off.
