Monarch Mountain

Plan the trip

A mountain on Monarch Pass in central Colorado at over 3200 metres, with entirely natural snow and no snowmaking at all, which is unusual for the state and possible because of how much falls here.

The terrain is a good spread with gentle groomed runs, tree skiing and a snowcat operation that opens serious terrain beyond the boundary. The mountain is small in lift count but the snow quality is consistently high.

There is no lodging on the mountain. Salida twenty minutes away is a likeable town on the Arkansas river with hot springs and a good main street. Prices are well below the resorts on the interstate and the crowds are thin.
