Plan the trip

The biggest ski area in the Pyrenees, spread across several Andorran valleys. It is wide, open and above the treeline, with a great deal of intermediate cruising, good beginner terrain and reliable snowmaking. Sunny and cheerful rather than dramatic. Where you stay changes the week completely. Pas de la Casa on the French border is duty free shopping and loud nights. Soldeu and El Tarter, further in, are calmer and better for families, and the ski schools there are used to teaching in English.

Hotels and apartments cost well below the Alps, and the duty free shopping genuinely changes what a week comes to. Down in Andorra la Vella there is Caldea, an enormous thermal complex worth an afternoon. Eat where the Catalan cooking is rather than off the tourist menus on the main strip.
