Upper Carniola, Slovenia

Kranjska Gora

Plan the trip

Slovenia's best known resort, in the corner where Slovenia, Austria and Italy meet, beneath the Julian Alps. The World Cup giant slalom on the Podkoren course every March is one of the fixtures of the season. The skiing is gentle and wooded and mostly intermediate, which makes it a good place for families and improvers rather than for people chasing steeps. Snowmaking covers most of the area.

Planica just up the valley has the ski flying hill where world records are set, and the Nordic centre there is open to visitors. The village is pleasant and prices are well below the Alps proper. Lake Bled is around forty minutes away and Ljubljana an hour and a half.
