The largest ski area on New Zealand's South Island, above Lake Wanaka, with the longest vertical in the country and a reputation for steep terrain that is well earned. Two basins hold most of the skiing, and the terrain suits confident intermediates and experts far better than beginners. The Motatapu chutes are the ones people talk about.

The view down onto Lake Wanaka and across to Mount Aspiring is among the best from any ski area anywhere. The season runs from June to early October. There is no lodging on the mountain and Wanaka, half an hour away, is the base.
