Orcières Merlette

Plan the trip
A high resort in the Champsaur valley in the Hautes Alpes, with the base at 1850 metres and the top at 2725, which gives it a snow record well above what people expect of the southern Alps. The terrain is open and treeless with a broad range of intermediate runs and wide gentle areas for beginners, and the sunshine here is a large part of the appeal.
It is a purpose built resort rather than a village, but everything is close together and most beds are on the snow, which suits families. The Écrins national park surrounds it. Ancelle and the other Champsaur villages are close by, and Gap is around forty minutes away.
