Plan the trip

A mountain in the San Juan range of southwest Colorado, high enough that the base sits at 2680 metres, with a snow record helped by storms that come in from the southwest and dump on this corner of the state.

The layout is a series of benches and pitches rather than one continuous fall line, which makes for a rolling and playful mountain rather than a relentless one. There is a good spread across all levels and the tree skiing is excellent.

Durango, forty minutes away, is the reason many people come. It is a genuine Old West town with a narrow gauge steam railway that still runs, brick streets and a good food scene, and it is far more interesting than a purpose built base. Prices and crowds are both well below the resorts along the I-70 corridor.
