Winter Park Resort

Plan the trip
The mountain splits sharply in character. One side is broad, sunny and intermediate. Mary Jane on the other is deliberately left ungroomed and produces some of the most sustained bump skiing in North America, with a devoted following to match. This is the closest major resort to Denver and the only one in Colorado reachable by ski train from downtown. The Winter Park Express runs at weekends and drops you at the base, and it is worth taking, because the drive back on a Sunday afternoon is notorious. The town a few kilometres away is unpretentious and comparatively affordable, with motels and rentals, and there are condos at the base. Everything costs less than at the Vail owned resorts. Hot Sulphur Springs is close by for a day out of the boots.
