Plan the trip

A state owned mountain in Franconia Notch in New Hampshire, with a granite face rising above a narrow pass and a reputation among New England skiers for being genuinely hard.

The terrain is steep and often icy, and the mountain does not apologise for it. Skiing well here is a mark of something in the region. There is gentler ground lower down and a separate learning area.

An aerial tramway runs to the summit and has done since the 1930s.

The New England Ski Museum is at the base, and Franconia Notch state park around it is protected land with no development. Prices are lower than at the private Vermont resorts.
