Plan the trip

The largest area in New York State, in the Adirondack Park at North Creek, and owned by the state rather than by a resort company. That shows in the prices and in the absence of any real estate around the base. The mountain spreads across four peaks with a fair amount of terrain, including some genuinely steep eastern runs and a long gondola from the base. Snowmaking is extensive, which matters here.

There is no village. North Creek in the valley is an ordinary Adirondack town with a few places to eat and stay, and the surrounding forest preserve is protected wilderness, so the setting is quiet in a way that resort valleys rarely are. Whiteface at Lake Placid is on the same state ticket.
