Gunstock Recreation Area

Plan the trip
A county owned mountain in the New Hampshire lakes region, above Lake Winnipesaukee, and one of the oldest ski areas in the United States, built by federal work programmes in the 1930s.
The view down onto the lake from the upper runs is the thing people remember. The terrain is modest and mostly intermediate, well suited to families, with a good learning area and night skiing several evenings a week.
Because it is publicly owned there is no real estate around the base and the prices reflect that. There is a substantial tubing park and a network of cross country and snowshoe trails.
Boston is around two hours away, which makes it a common weekend option.
