Plan the trip

A car free village on a shelf above the Lauterbrunnen valley, reached only by cable car or train, facing the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau across the gorge. The Schilthorn above it has a revolving restaurant at 2970 metres that appeared in a James Bond film, and the descent from the top is long and serious. The pisted terrain lower down is mostly intermediate.

Mürren hosts the Inferno, the largest amateur downhill race in the world, every January, which runs from the Schilthorn all the way to Lauterbrunnen. The village is tiny and traditional with no cars ever having reached it. Interlaken is roughly an hour away by train and cable car.
