Belalp

Plan the trip
A tiny car free hamlet on a sunny shelf high above the Rhône valley, reached only by cable car from Blatten. There is barely a village, just a handful of hotels and rental chalets, simple and inexpensive by Swiss standards.
The Aletsch glacier, the largest in the Alps, fills the view from the top. The skiing is quiet, sunny and mostly intermediate, with a long descent back to the valley station and almost nobody on it.
In January the hamlet runs a costumed mass descent it has held for decades. Otherwise a snowshoe walk along the Aletsch is the outing.
Not a resort for people who want a lot going on, and that is exactly why the people who come here keep coming back.
