Switzerland
Saint-Luc - Chandolin
Plan the trip
Two villages on the sunny side of the Val d'Anniviers in Valais, joined into one area, high above the Rhône valley and facing a wall of four thousand metre peaks.
The skiing is sunny and chiefly intermediate with a good vertical and terrain up to nearly 3000 metres, and there is genuine off piste for people who know where to look. It stays quiet compared with the big Valais names.
There is a planetary path along the mountainside, a scale model of the solar system laid out over several kilometres, and an observatory at the top, which is unusual and popular with children.
The valley is a dead end, which keeps the traffic down. Sierre below connects to the main railway.
