Valais, Switzerland
Zinal / Grimentz

Plan the trip
Two villages in the Val d'Anniviers in Valais, joined by cable car, in one of the quieter corners of Switzerland. Grimentz is a preserved village of dark timber buildings with geraniums in summer and deep snow in winter, and it is among the more photogenic places in the Alps.
The skiing is north facing and holds cold snow well, with a strong local reputation for off piste and a lift system that reaches close to 2900 metres. Confident skiers get the most from it.
The valley is a dead end, which keeps the traffic down and the atmosphere intact. There are no big hotels, mostly chalets and small family run places, and the prices are moderate by Swiss standards. Sierre in the valley below connects to the main railway.
