Plan the trip

A sunny plateau high above the Rhône valley in Valais, facing due south, with a view across to the Matterhorn and the Weisshorn that few resorts can match. The two villages that give it the name have grown together into something closer to a small town, with shops, restaurants and a golf course that hosts a European Tour event in summer.

The skiing is wide, sunny and mostly intermediate, running up to the Plaine Morte glacier at close to 3000 metres, which keeps the top of the area reliable. Long descents come back down towards the villages through larch forest. It is an easy place to reach. A funicular runs up from Sierre in the valley, and the train down there connects to the main Swiss network. Hotels range from simple to very grand and prices are Swiss. The sun and the view are what people come back for.
