Three villages on a sunny terrace high above the Inn valley, running what is probably the most thoroughly family engineered ski area anywhere. Serfaus is car free and served by an underground funicular built specifically so that parents do not have to walk children in ski boots to the lifts.

The area counts 214 kilometres of piste across 460 hectares, wide and well groomed, with beginner areas kept separate from the main flow of traffic. Children's facilities and ski schools are exceptional and clearly the design priority, and there are themed pistes built to keep young skiers interested.

The plateau sits high enough for a strong snow record, and the sun is a large part of why people come back. Hotels are built around families, with childcare, pools and early dinner sittings, and priced accordingly. Beyond the skiing there are toboggan runs, winter walking trails and adventure playgrounds. Evenings are quiet, which is the point.
