A mountain above Schoppernau in the Bregenzerwald in Vorarlberg, reached by cable car and rising to over 2000 metres, with a view that takes in a great many alpine peaks on a clear day. The area records some of the heaviest snowfall of any inhabited part of Europe, and the terrain includes serious off piste alongside the marked runs, which gives it a following among freeriders.

The Bregenzerwald has a distinctive modern timber architecture and a strong cheese tradition, with a marked cheese road through the valleys. Prices are moderate and the villages are quiet working Austrian settlements.
