Plan the trip

One of the largest ski areas in Bavaria, an hour from Munich, above the village of Bayrischzell in the Mangfall mountains. Its closeness to the city is the defining fact, since a great many Münchner learned to ski here.

The area was extensively modernised with new lifts and snowmaking, which addressed the main weakness of a resort at this altitude. The terrain is broad and mostly intermediate with a good snowpark and a long descent back to the valley. Weekends are busy with day traffic from the city, so midweek is calmer. Bayrischzell itself is a pleasant Bavarian village with guesthouses and beer, and the Wendelstein cog railway nearby is worth a trip for the view.
