Arêches Beaufort

Plan the trip
The cheese comes from here. Beaufort is made in this valley and the dairy in the village takes visitors, which makes this one of the few ski areas whose name you also find in the cheese aisle at home.
Fifty kilometres of piste reach up to 2300 metres, with a snow record better than the altitude suggests and a view that draws as many touring skiers as downhillers. The Pierra Menta, among the hardest ski mountaineering races in the world, is held here every spring. Two villages, 15000 hectares of open country and 500 kilometres of marked trail. Genuine and family run, in a Savoie that was otherwise built at scale.
