One of the most successful family resorts in the Alps. Eleven villages spread across a mountainside, joined to Les Arcs by the Vanoise Express cable car, with enormous quantities of gentle blue skiing and a huge ski school operation.

Blue and easy red skiing dominates, which makes it ideal for a family with mixed abilities or for anyone in their second or third season. The glacier above Bellecôte reaches 3058 metres and gives height when the lower slopes soften, and 70 per cent of the Paradiski pistes sit above 2000 metres.

The high villages are plain to look at, but almost everything in them is ski in and ski out, and that matters more than architecture when you are moving small children in ski boots. Montchavin and Champagny are older and prettier and sit a lift ride away. The Olympic bobsleigh run from 1992 is open to the public, and children remember it long after they have forgotten the skiing.
