Plan the trip

The highest ski village in Austria, on a pass at 2020 metres half an hour from Innsbruck, which gives it one of the more reliable snow records in the country and a season that runs long at both ends. Everything sits above the treeline, so the terrain is wide and open and mostly intermediate, and almost every hotel is on the snow. That makes it straightforward with children, because nothing needs a bus. The pass is exposed, so a whiteout day here gives you nothing to ski by, and it is worth picking somewhere you would be happy to sit for an afternoon. Innsbruck is close enough that the city and its other mountains are easy day trips, and the Kühtai pass covers Hochoetz as well.
