Plan the trip

Two linked villages on the French side of the Portes du Soleil, low in the trees. Morzine is a real town with a year round population, a busy bar scene and a large British contingent. Les Gets is smaller, prettier and better suited to families. Geneva is around seventy five minutes away, so short breaks work.

The skiing is broad, rolling and mostly intermediate, with proper wooded runs that stay pleasant when cloud sits on the high resorts. Access to the wider Portes du Soleil circuit means the terrain on one pass is enormous, and a day crossing into Switzerland is easy from either village.

The altitude is low, so aim for January or early February rather than December or April. Chalets fill Morzine and apartments and family hotels fill Les Gets, and there is a mechanical music museum in Les Gets for the bad weather afternoon.
