A mountain in Carnia in the far northeast of Italy, better known to cyclists than to skiers because the road up is one of the hardest climbs in the Giro d'Italia.

The ski area is modest but the terrain is varied with a good vertical, and it is very quiet because Carnia is well off the main tourist routes.

The region has a strong local identity with its own Friulian language and a food tradition built on smoked ricotta and mountain cheese.

Udine is around an hour and a half away and Austria and Slovenia are both close. Prices are low.
