Moose Mountain Ski Resort

Plan the trip

The largest alpine area in interior Alaska, outside Fairbanks, with 750 acres and 1300 feet of vertical spread over a hill more than a mile wide. The mountain faces south, which means you ski above the winter inversion in sunshine while the valley below sits in cold fog. That is a genuinely unusual selling point and the reason locals value it.

The terrain runs from long gentle cruisers to steep narrow black runs, and there is enough of it to keep good skiers occupied. Fairbanks is close by, and the aurora here is as good as anywhere in the world. The season depends on snowfall, which in interior Alaska is drier and thinner than on the coast.
