Schweitzer Mountain Resort
Plan the trip
The biggest ski area in Idaho, above Lake Pend Oreille in the northern panhandle, with two bowls of open terrain and a view down onto the lake that is among the best in the northwest.
The terrain suits confident intermediates and experts, with long groomed runs, open bowl skiing and gladed terrain between. The snow is dry interior snow and the mountain is rarely busy.
There is a small village at the base with hotels and condos, and Sandpoint down the hill is a likeable lake town with a proper main street. Spokane airport is around two hours away. Night skiing runs at weekends, and prices sit below the better known resorts in Montana and British Columbia.
