Lookout Pass

Plan the trip
A ski area on the Idaho and Montana border on the interstate, with a base right at the highway and a snowfall record helped by its position on the divide.
The mountain recently expanded onto a second peak, which roughly doubled the terrain, and there is a good spread of gentle and intermediate runs with tree skiing between.
It is one of the more affordable operations in the northern Rockies, and it runs a free ski school for children that has been going since the 1930s.
Wallace in Idaho below is a preserved mining town worth a look. Spokane is around ninety minutes away.
