The largest floodlit ski area in the United States, on the south side of Mount Hood in Oregon, less than an hour from Portland. Night skiing is what defines the place, and a substantial share of its terrain is lit.

The mountain is steeper than its neighbours on Hood, with a genuine upper bowl and tree skiing that rewards people who know the mountain. The lower area is gentler and takes most of the learning traffic.

There is no lodging at the ski area. Government Camp is at the bottom of the access road and Portland is close enough that most people drive up for an evening rather than a week.

Pacific weather means rain at the base is a real possibility, so check the freezing level before you set out.
