Ski Mystic Deer Mountain
Plan the trip
A small ski area in the Black Hills of South Dakota near Lead, with a modest vertical and a spread of runs suited to families and improvers. It is one of only a handful of ski areas in the northern plains, which makes it valuable to the region even though it would be unremarkable anywhere with mountains. Night skiing runs on certain evenings and there is a good learning operation.
The Black Hills around it hold Mount Rushmore, Custer State Park and Deadwood, and that combination makes for an unusual winter trip. Rapid City is around an hour away.
