A ski area at the head of the Valchiavenna in Lombardy, close to the Swiss border, with Madesimo as the main base and Campodolcino below it connected by cable car.
The Canalone is the run people come for, a long steep natural descent that has a serious reputation in Italy, and the rest of the terrain is mainly intermediate with a good vertical and altitude up to nearly 2900 metres.
The valley is known for its crotti, natural rock cellars used for ageing cheese and wine and now often restaurants. Milan is around two hours away and the Splügen pass into Switzerland is right above.
