The ski area at Oslo Vinterpark on the ridge above the city, reached by underground railway from the centre in around half an hour, which very few capital cities can offer. The hill is modest but the terrain parks are well built and floodlit evening skiing runs through the winter, which is how most of Oslo uses it after work. The Nordmarka forest around it holds hundreds of kilometres of cross country trails starting from the same station, and Holmenkollen with its ski jump and museum is a few stops down the line. There is also a climbing park and summer activities, so the area operates year round.
