Plan the trip

The lower half of the Italian side of the Matterhorn ski area, below Breuil Cervinia, and a working Valdostana village rather than a resort.

The skiing here is part of the same system that climbs to Plateau Rosa and crosses to Zermatt, so the ground available on one pass is enormous, and the descent from the top all the way to Valtournenche is among the longest in the Alps.

Staying here rather than in Cervinia costs a good deal less and puts you in a village with an ordinary Italian life going on. The Aosta valley below has Roman ruins, castles and a strong food and wine tradition.
