Plan the trip

A small Glarus village at the head of a dead end valley, joined by lift to Flumserberg over the ridge to form the Sportbahnen Elm area. It is quiet, traditional, and very Swiss in a way that has nothing to do with tourism.

The mountain is best known for the Martinsloch, a natural hole in the rock face above the village through which the sun shines directly onto the church tower twice a year, in March and September. People gather to watch it.

The skiing is straightforward and sunny with a good beginner area and enough red terrain for a few days. There is also a well regarded ski touring scene in the surrounding peaks. Zurich is around ninety minutes away.
