A mountain south of Lake Tahoe with the biggest snowfall in the region and the most serious terrain, sitting in a natural bowl surrounded by cliff bands. The skiing is steep and technical with cornices, chutes and open bowls, and it has a devoted following among people who ski hard. There is gentler ground lower down and a good learning area.

It is remote for Tahoe, around forty minutes further than the northern resorts, and the road can close in storms. That isolation is why the snow lasts. There is a small village at the base with limited lodging and dining. Most visitors stay at South Lake Tahoe and drive out.
