Mount Rose Ski Tahoe

Plan the trip
The closest ski area to Reno, around half an hour away, and the one with the highest base elevation at Lake Tahoe, which means the snow stays cold when the lower resorts turn wet. The terrain is a good spread with gentle groomed runs and a section called the Chutes that gives genuinely steep skiing directly off the ridge. The mountain sits on a pass with the runs on both sides, and the view down onto Lake Tahoe from the upper lifts is excellent. There is no lodging on the mountain. Reno and Incline Village are the bases, and the highway can close in heavy weather.
