Plan the trip

The largest ski resort in the United States, sitting directly above a preserved silver mining town whose Main Street is a genuine nineteenth century high street with bars, restaurants, galleries and a film festival every January. This is a place with a life independent of skiing, and the Main Street tables go well ahead.

The mountain is wide, varied and mostly intermediate, spread over ridges and bowls with excellent tree skiing between them, and beginners are well provided for. The old Park City and Canyons areas were joined by gondola into one system, so the ground you can cover in a day is considerable.

Salt Lake City airport is forty minutes away with no mountain pass to cross, which makes this the easiest transfer of any major North American resort. Hotels sit at the base, rentals in town, and a free bus runs between them. Buy lift tickets in advance, because the daily number is capped.
