Solitude Mountain Resort

Plan the trip
A quiet mountain at the top of Big Cottonwood Canyon in Utah, half an hour from Salt Lake City, and true to its name in a way that most resorts with that sort of branding are not.
The terrain is varied with a fair amount of gentle ground, excellent tree skiing and the Honeycomb Canyon on the back side, which is a long natural bowl that holds powder for days.
The snow is the dry Utah kind and the mountain caps ticket sales, which keeps the crowds thin. There is a small village at the base with lodging and restaurants. The canyon road closes during avalanche control, so build slack into travel plans.
