The largest high alpine meadow in Europe, a rolling plateau at around 1800 metres in South Tyrol with the Schlern and the Sassolungo standing over it.

The terrain is gentle and wide, running across open pasture rather than down a mountainside, which makes it one of the best places in the Dolomites for beginners and for anyone who wants to cover ground without being frightened. The cross country network here is extensive and superb.

The plateau is largely car free during the day, which keeps it quiet, and the light across the meadows in the afternoon is the reason photographers come.

It is on the Dolomiti Superski pass, so the Sellaronda is available for a bigger day. The villages below at Kastelruth and Seis are German speaking and traditional.
