A Ladin speaking Dolomite valley with a string of villages sharing lifts and the vast Dolomiti Superski pass. Canazei at the head is the liveliest, Moena at the bottom is a real town with a market, and Campitello and Vigo sit between them.

Bus links along the valley are good, so a car is unnecessary once you arrive. It is a hub for the Sellaronda, so a day touring around the Sella massif starts on the doorstep, and the Marmolada glacier is reachable on the same pass. The skiing throughout is wide and immaculately groomed and suits intermediates best. Family hotels with half board, plus apartments, at prices below Alta Badia over the pass. Lunch on a terrace somewhere is worth building the day around.
