Plan the trip

The largest ski area in Pennsylvania, in the Laurel Highlands about an hour from Pittsburgh, and the main winter destination for that part of the state. The vertical is modest and the terrain is mostly gentle, which suits its purpose, and the operation is built around learning, families and a large snow tubing park. Floodlit evening skiing runs most of the season.

Snowmaking does nearly all the work here, so check conditions before setting out. The resort hotel at the base is substantial and there is a spa, a bowling alley and enough indoors to fill a bad weather day. Fallingwater, Frank Lloyd Wright's house over the waterfall, is twenty minutes away and worth the detour.
