The largest ski area in West Virginia by trail count, in the southern part of the state near Beckley, and the closest real skiing for much of Virginia and the Carolinas. The vertical is modest and the terrain is gentle, which suits its purpose, and the whole operation is built around beginners, families and the tubing park, which is one of the largest in the region. Floodlit evening skiing runs most of the season.

Snowmaking covers essentially all of it. The New River Gorge national park is close by and worth a detour if you are driving up for a weekend, and lodging in the area is inexpensive.
