Maine, United States
Sunday River

Plan the trip
Eight linked peaks in western Maine, and one of the most reliable snowmaking operations in North America. That reliability is the reason it has a following, because eastern winters are unpredictable and this mountain is not. The terrain spreads widely across the ridge line, with something sheltered available whatever the wind is doing, and a good spread from gentle learning slopes to steep glades. Beginners are particularly well served.
There is a base village with hotels and condos, and Bethel a few kilometres away is a New England town with places to eat. Boston is around three hours away and Portland ninety minutes. March here is usually better than January, because the base built through the winter finally softens and the days lengthen.
