One of the quieter Austrian areas, in the Pyhrn Priel region of Upper Austria, sharing a pass with Hinterstoder next door. Both are described locally as insider tips and the description holds, because very few international visitors come here.

The skiing is reached by a funicular from the valley up onto a high plateau, and the terrain is wide and sunny and mostly intermediate with a long descent back down. Hinterstoder on the same ticket has hosted World Cup races and gives a steeper day when you want one. The villages are ordinary Upper Austrian settlements with guesthouses at low prices, and the Kalkalpen national park surrounds the whole area. Linz is around an hour and a half away.
