Plan the trip

A village at the foot of the Grossglockner, the highest mountain in Austria, in Carinthia at the edge of the Hohe Tauern national park. The setting is the reason to come. The pilgrimage church in the village with the peak behind it is one of the most photographed views in the country, and the skiing looks out onto glaciers and three thousand metre summits.

The terrain is north facing, which keeps the snow in good order, with a long descent from the top and mostly intermediate runs. It is quiet, because Heiligenblut is a long way from anywhere. The Grossglockner high alpine road, one of the great mountain drives in Europe, starts here and opens in late spring.
