Austria
Mölltaler Gletscher
Plan the trip
A glacier in Carinthia reaching over 3000 metres, and one of the most reliable places in Austria for early and late season snow. National teams train here through the autumn. Access is by an underground funicular from the valley followed by lifts, which takes a while but delivers you into high alpine terrain. The skiing is mostly intermediate with wide open pistes and a long season, and the setting among the Hohe Tauern peaks is superb.
There is very little at the base and the Mölltal below is a quiet Carinthian valley. This is a place to come for the certainty of snow in October or May rather than for a midwinter week.
