The biggest ski area in the northern Apennines, on the highest peak between the Alps and the Sicilian volcanoes, in the mountains above Modena. Four linked sectors surround the mountain, so there is generally one side out of the wind and one side in the sun.

The skiing is well groomed and mostly intermediate, with plenty of easy terrain, and it stays quiet compared with anywhere in the Alps. Snowmaking covers most of the area. The real argument for coming is the Emilian food in the villages below. This is the country of prosciutto, parmesan and balsamic vinegar, and the mountain restaurants take it seriously. Bologna and Modena are both within easy reach.
