Shawnee Mountain

Plan the trip
A family mountain in the Pocono hills of Pennsylvania, within easy reach of both New York and Philadelphia, and one of the places a great many people from those cities first learned to ski.
The vertical is modest and the terrain is gentle, and the mountain leans into that rather than pretending otherwise. The learning area, the ski school and the snow tubing park are the heart of the operation, and floodlit evening skiing extends the day.
Snowmaking does all the work here, so check conditions before you set out. The Delaware Water Gap national recreation area is next door, and the Poconos have plenty of accommodation at prices well below anywhere in New England.
