Mountain Creek
Plan the trip
The closest ski area to New York City, around an hour away in northern New Jersey, which is the single fact that defines it. A great many people from the city learn to ski here. The vertical is modest and the terrain is spread across four peaks, with a strong terrain park programme that has a following of its own. Snowmaking is extensive and the operation runs on volume.
Floodlit evening skiing is heavily used, and midweek evenings are far calmer than weekends. There is a hotel at the base and a waterpark that runs year round. It is not a destination for a week, but as a place to get days on snow without a long drive it does its job well.
