Part of the Ski amadé pass, which is one of the largest single lift tickets in Europe, and one of the better sectors within it for people who like to ski hard. Zauchensee holds a women's World Cup downhill every January on the Kälberloch course, and the mountain is steeper and more serious than the gentle Salzburg reputation suggests. Flachauwinkl on the other side is broader and sunnier, and the two are joined across the valley. The area sits high for this part of Austria, so the snow record is good, and there is a well known snowpark on the Flachauwinkl side. Accommodation is spread through quiet hamlets rather than a resort village. Half board hotels and guesthouses are the norm, and the Therme Amadé at Altenmarkt is nearby for a rest day.
